Govt castles Pinarayi; UDF calls for hartal  - Kochi: The cabinet has decided not to prosecute CPM state secretary and former power minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the infamous Lavalin case. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan voiced his disagreement on the the decision. Cabinet took the decision based on the legal advice given by Advocate General Sudhakar Prasad. Pinarayi Vijayan is the ninth accused in the case  The UDF Wednesday called for a dawn to dusk hartal on Thursday in protest against the cabinet decision not to allow the prosecution of Pinarayi Vijayan in the Lavain case. UDF convenor P.P.Thankachan said this hartal was imposed on people because of the government decision not to prosecute Pinarayi Vijayan.

      - Mammootty New Delhi: Noted film actor and Padmasree awardee Mammootty was detained by US homeland security for around two hours at the JFK airport over his passport name. The actor was released only after the intervention of the Indian consulate. The incident happened on 29th of April when Mammootty arrived at JFK airport, New York, in a British Airways flight BA 113 from Chennai. Name of Mammooty as it appears in his passport is Mohammedkutty Ismail Paniparambil. According to reports Mammootty was detained because of the name Mohammed Ismail for which an alert has been sounded in British and US airports. Mammootty was released after an official from the Indian consulate reached the airport. Mammooty was in New York to attend fundraising meetings in favour of his childhood friend Stanley Kulathara who is standing in for New York city council elections. T he Tata Nano received over 203,000 fully paid bookings amounting to nearly Rs 2,500 crore (Rs 25 billion), Tata Motors said on Monday. The company said that 610,000 forms were purchased from the booking centres. Almost 70 per cent of the 203,000 bookings received were financed, while 30 per cent of the applicants booked in cash by paying fully.
