Section 49-O of the Constitution

Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone! Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O". Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received"49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political syst

Why suddenly going for Nuclear Deal.

whay is the prime minister of INDIA want to get the nuclear deal with USA done so fast.... the deal is not for the good of the people of this country. this Deal is for the nuclear machine building giant of the USA. This Deal will not bring electricity 10 year for the country. more over the Hyde act law of the USA will enable the USA to impose any saction if INDIA do a Nuclear test. it also bring the same plight of countires like IRAQ and IRAN . The Act enable the USA to inspect the country anytime. Now the country is suffering form high inflation. i request the prime minister to concentrate on the inflation , oilprice and food probelm the country is facing and not the nuclear deal. I belief now INDIA is having the "WORST PRIME MINISTER ".

As the christian management are crying i have not found anything agianst or for any of the various religious belief. The book clearly explains the facts and not the current situation . I begining a christian not found anything hurting or agianst the christanity and similairly to any other religion. What i personally understa

Mythical energy claims to promote a bad nuclear deal.

The Congress leadership and the UPA government are propagating that the Indo-US nuclear deal is absolutely essential for India 's energy security. A massive disinformation campaign has been mounted that nuclear energy is a solution not only to the shortage of electricity in the country but also an answer to the oil price rise. This is nothing but a cover to promote the strategic ties with the US . As it is difficult to promote India-US strategic ties directly, therefore the recourse to false claims that nuclear energy will at one stroke reduce not only our oil consumption and but also remove our power shortages. Let us take the issue of oil first. More than 50% of India 's oil consumption is in the transport sector – cars, buses and trucks and the rest in petrochemicals and fertilisers. Only a negligible amount is used in the power plants. Nuclear energy has very little to do with oil – it cannot be used as a substitute for oil; unless the Government experts have found a new

Fuel Price Hike Thoroughly Unjustified

The hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG announced by the Government today is unjustified. If the suggestions put forward by the Left Parties are taken into account, this price hike would be totally unnecessary. The Government has said that the price hike would lead to additional earnings of Rs. 21123 crore for the Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). This amount can be easily mobilised to provide relief to the OMCs by doing the following: v Rs. 7500 crore per annum cess collected from ONGC and Oil India Ltd. under the Oil Industry Development (OID) Act, 1974, which is not being used for the development of the petroleum sector, can be used to create a Price Stabilisation Fund, from which the OMCs can be compensated. v If excise duties on petrol and diesel are cut by Rs. 3/litre instead of Re. 1/litre as has been done presently, a further relief of around Rs. 12000 crore can be provided to the OMCs.v According to the Statement of Revenue Foregone in the Union

Price Rise of Petroleum Products Denounced:Call for Powerful Protest Movement

The government has announced a steep increase in prices of petroleum products across the board. The price of petrol per litre is increased by Rs. 5; diesel by Rs. 3; and LPG cylinder by Rs. 50. This onslaught on the people comes at a time when they are suffering from the steep price rise of all essential commodities. In the background of the failure of the government to tackle the rising rate of inflation, this hike in petroleum prices will further aggravate the inflationary situation. The increase in the price of diesel, in particular, will have a cascading effect on all-round prices as the transportation costs will rise sharply. Rs. 50 increase in the price of LPG cylinder will also be a crushing burden on family budget of ordinary people. The Left parties had given a set of alternative proposals which have been ignored by the government for the past three years. The only substantial step taken is the doing away of the 5 per cent import duty on crude oil.It is to be noted that

Rajasthan Police Firings

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the brutal police firings on May 23 and 24, killing 35 people and injuring more than a hundred, in Rajasthan. The Vasundhara Raje government which has earned notoriety in police firings is solely responsible for the present killings. The BJP government has not learnt any lesson from last year's incidents and completely bungled in tackling the agitation. The Polit Bureau urges upon the Vasundhara Raje government to immediately stop police repression and talk to the leaders of the agitation for arriving at an amicable settlement.

Jaipur Blasts Condemned

he Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the horrific bomb blasts in Jaipur city which has led to the loss of sixty lives and 200 injured. This terrorist attack was designed to inflict the maximum casualties in the crowded areas of the city. The modus operandi of the explosions reveal a common pattern with earlier attacks in other cities. The security agencies have to take all necessary steps to uncover the network of groups behind these outrages. The design behind this attack is also to disrupt communal peace and harmony. We appeal to the people of Jaipur to remain calm and united. The CPI(M) extends its heartfelt condolences to all the families who have suffered a grievous loss. No effort should be spared for medical treatment of the injured. The state government should take steps to provide relief and compensation to those who have lost their family members.

On Dealing With Rising World Oil Prices

The profits enjoyed by private oil companies in the country have increased along with increase in oil prices. Due to the selective policy of the Government, private sector companies both in upstream and downstream are enjoying windfall profits arising not due to extra business acumen or competitive business approach but due to the high global crude price. With crude oil prices now exceeding $ 100 per barrel, it is necessary that windfall gains be recovered from all the private and joint venture oil producing companies like M/s Cairns, Reliance, Essar etc extracting oil and gas in India. When these contractors participated in the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP), none of them could have envisaged crude oil prices beyond $ 30 per barrel. It would be a failure on Government's part to allow upstream contractors additional gain of $ 70 per barrel - $ 80 per barrel without any extra work. Many other countries have gone ahead and re-negotiated their contracts with a threat of imposi
