covid Vaccine

Finally, some good news related to a COVID-19 vaccine that we've all been waiting for. Not just any vaccine, but a vaccine that many experts believe will be the first in the world to be commercialised. The UK government has announced that human trial of a potential Coronavirus vaccine being developed by Oxford University researchers will begin from Thursday. Last week, even the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has supported the Oxford vaccine, called 'ChAdOX1', calling it the frontrunner in the race for a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the UK government, the potential Oxford University coronavirus vaccine will be on up to 510 people aged between 18 and 55, out of an overall group of 1,112 volunteers who've been selected and finalised for the COVID-19 vaccine trial. The information of fast-tracking the Oxford vaccine trial was revealed by UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock while briefing the UK parliament on how they're pretty much 'throwing everything at&

Madhya Pradesh Govt finally have a Cabinet

At long last, Shivraj Singh Chouhan  formed his council of ministers  – albeit a tiny, five-member one – on Tuesday, 29 days after he was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh after the fall of the Congress-led government under Kamal Nath. The absence of a cabinet in general, or a health minister in particular, at a time when the  Coronavirus pandemic  was rapidly claiming victims across the state had become the most strident criticism against Chouhan over the past month. Outlook had first reported on April 14 that  Chouhan had initiated cabinet formation talks  and a final decision on the subject would be taken by April 20.

Kerala institute develops low-cost Covid-19 test kit that can give results in 2 hours

In a significant development for COVID-19 diagnosis and testing in India, a reputed medical institute in Kerala has been successful in developing a low-cost diagnostic testing kit that can give results of the viral infection in two hours. A release from the Union Ministry of Science and Technology said Thursday that a team of clinicians and scientists at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) in Thiruvananthapuram has been able to come up with a test kit which is deemed highly specific for SARS-CoV-2 N-gene and can detect two regions of the gene, which will ensure that the test does not fail even if one region of the viral gene undergoes mutation during its current spread. The test detects the N gene of SARS-COV2 using reverse transcriptase loop-mediated amplification of viral nucleic acid (RT-LAMP). Tests approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at the NiV, Alappuzha have shown 100% accuracy and match with test results conducte

old generation computer in 737 Max holding up the software fix accompanied by rush through initial faulty design

A brand-new Boeing 737 Max gets built in just nine days. In that time, a team of 12,000 people turns a loose assemblage of parts into a finished $120 million airplane with some truly cutting-edge technology: winglets based on ones designed by NASA, engines that feature the world’s first one-piece carbon-fiber fan blades, and computers with the same processing power as, uh, the Super Nintendo. The Max has been grounded since March 2019, after some badly written software caused two crashes that killed 346 people. And while Boeing has received plenty of scrutiny for its bad code, it’s the Max’s computing power — or lack thereof — that has kept it on the ground since then Every 737 Max has two flight control computers. These take some of the workload off of pilots, whether that’s through full automation (such as autopilot) or through fine control adjustments during manual flight. These computers can literally fly the airplane — they have authority over major control surfaces and throttles

Coronavirus layoffs: Indian H-1B visa holders leave US in 60 days

Current economic slowdown prompted by the global coronavirus outbreak has made businesses reconsider their employee hiring and retention decisions - a lot of US companies will be laying off Indian employees working on H1B visas in the upcoming weeks. The unemployment claims in the US have reached a staggering 3000% since March, with more than 6.6 million people filing for unemployment benefits, according to a data released by the U.S Department of Labour and Statistics.

Good friday 2020

Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, and Black Friday. 2020 good Friday have more importance.  First time in my life I have missed the good Friday service completely due to pandemic  covid 19. Hope Easter 2020 will bring the hope of cure to pandemic and bring ray of hope for way forward.  Hope a miracle  happened  soon to control this virus.  Only God can control nobody else

Boeing 737 Max grounding

In In March 2019, aviation authorities worldwide grounded the Boeing 737 MAX passenger airliner after 346 people died in two plane crashes, Lion Air Flight 610 on October 29, 2018 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 on March 10, 2019. Investigators determined that both crashes resulted from nosedives caused by the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS), a new automated flight control which Boeing was allowed to omit from crew manuals. In November 2018, a week after the first accident, Boeing and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provided updated instructions to disable MCAS if it malfunctioned. In December 2018, the FAA predicted more accidents if MCAS was not revised, but kept its findings private and believed the advisories to airlines sufficed until Boeing developed a permanent solution

COBOL programmer required during covid 19

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has asked for volunteers who know COBOL progamming language. “On our list of volunteers, not only do we need healthcare workers, we need engineers with COBOL skills,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement. COBOL language skills are needed during these times to update various governmental records, including post-mortem data of the deceased, in the US. The State is using 40-plus year-old legacy systems that need programmers adept in using a decades-old computer language, created in 1959. In the last two weeks, unemployment claims filed in the US jumped to over 362,000, according to the Department of Labor. And these filings go into the legacy systems run on COBOL. The aging Common Business Oriented Language underpins much of the U.S. financial industry, according to a  Reuters  report. Roughly, 43% of banking systems are built on COBOL, and about 95% of ATM swipes rely on the 60-year-old language’s codes. The average age of a COBOL programmer in 50, and less th

covid 19 impact on airlines industry

Global airlines warned that 25 million jobs across the world could be at risk from the coronavirus travel downturn and the industry's representative body said airline finances were so fragile they could not afford to refund customers. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has held a series of weekly news conferences, issuing increasingly desperate messages about the state of airline industry, and urging governments to help carriers. In its latest warning, IATA whose members include the likes of Lufthansa and British Airways parent IAG said global air travel slumped by 70% at the beginning of the second quarter, and its Director General Alexandre De Juniac said airlines could not afford to issue refunds. He said customers should accept vouchers. "The key element for us is to avoid running out of cash so refunding the cancelled ticket for us is almost unbearable financially speaking," De Juniac told reporters on Tuesday. IATA highlighted the loss of jobs and th

Earth shaking less as coronavirus lockdowns curb human-related seismic activity

Normally there’s a whole lot o’ shakin’ going on. But during lockdown, not so much. Without humans and their mechanical devices stomping and rumbling across the planet, Earth’s surface has calmed down — and it’s showing up on seismology instruments everywhere. It’s a bonanza for researchers, giving them “a rare opportunity to study the modern world under some truly bizarre conditions,” The Atlantic reported, “and they’re scrambling to collect as much data as they can.”  It started with an observation in Brussels, where seismologist Thomas Lecocq, with the Royal Observatory of Belgium, noticed that vibrations due to human activity dropped by about a third after lockdown measures were imposed in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.  The university’s seismometer registered the drop after schools, restaurants and other public venues closed down, and nonessential travel halted, in the middle of last month, Lecocq told Nature.  The drop may be as steep as a 50% reductio

Coronavirus

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a  novel  severe acute respiratory syndrome.  Coronavirus first isolated from three people with pneumonia connected to the  cluster  of acute respiratory illness cases in Wuhan.  All features of the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus occur in related coronaviruses in nature.Outside the human body, the virus is killed by household  soap , which bursts its protective bubble. SARS-CoV-2 is closely related to the original SARS-CoV.It is thought to have a  zoonotic  origin.  Genetic analysis has revealed that the coronavirus genetically clusters with the genus  Betacoronavirus , in subgenus  Sarbecovirus  (lineage B) together with two bat-derived strains. It is 96% identical at the whole  genome  level to other bat coronavirus samples (BatCov RaTG13).  In February 2020, Chinese researchers found that there is only one  amino acid  difference in certain parts of the genome sequences between the viruses from  pangolins  and those
