Idea+ Vodafone to Merge to form the Largest telecom Company

Idea Cellular Ltd and Vodafone India announced a merger on Monday to form the largest telecommunication company in India. A filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange said Vodafone will hold 45 percent in the combined entity while 26 percent will be with Idea promoters. Apart from the two, AB Group will have the right to buy 9.5 percent stake at Rs 130 per share, according to the filing. According to an earlier report by brokerage firm CLSA, the merged entity will have revenues of over Rs 80,000 crore. The combined entity will have 43 percent revenue market share and a 40 percent active subscriber base. The behemoth will account for over 25 percent of allocated spectrum and will have to sell about 1 percent to comply with spectrum cap norms. It will be an all-share merger of Vodafone India (excluding Vodafone's 42 percent stake in Indus Towers) and Idea. Dynamic pricing sees Rajdhani berths Empty .....

The Indian Railways decision to introduce demand-based dynamic fares for its premium trains — 42 Rajdhanis, 46 Shatabdis and 54 Duranto trains across the country — has resulted in fares sometimes being on par with those for air travel. One result is that the Mumbai Central–New Delhi Rajdhani Express, train 12951, has been running with a large number of empty berths. This is pushing the Railway ministry to reevaluate the strategy. The Railways borrowed the dynamic fare system from he airlines, and introduced it with premium trains. Under the Railways version of the system, the first 10% of the tickets are sold at the base fare, and beyond that, fares are increased based on demand. For example, on March 10 and 11, a Mumbai–Delhi Rajdhani AC two-tier ticket was ₹4,105 (from a base fare of ₹2,870) and AC three-tier went up to ₹2,760 (base fare ₹2,085).
