WHY LUCK FACTOR

I set out to examine luck, 10 years ago. Why are some people always in the right place at the right time, while others consistently experience ill fortune? I placed advertisements in national newspapers asking for people who felt consistently lucky or unlucky to contact me. Hundreds of extraordinary men and women volunteered for my research and over the years have been interviewed by me. I have monitored their lives and had them take part in experiments. The results reveal that although these people have almost no insight into the causes of their luck, their thoughts and behavior are responsible for much of their good and bad fortune. Take the case of seemingly chance opportunities. Lucky people consistently encounter such opportunities, whereas unlucky people do not. I carried out a simple experiment to discover whether this was due to differences in their ability to spot such opportunities. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper, and asked them to look through it and tell m

STAND TALL AS A SUNFLOWER

Even the most mundane occurrences can have an impact on our awareness. A family moved into their new home some years ago and they spent a lot of time and energy in the yard to get it look green. They lived on a corner, higher than street level, and the entire side of the yard was encased by a professionally built rock wall. They did the best and changed that area as their 'rock garden'. Last summer they found a tiny little plant at the end of the rock garden that they could not immediately identify. They knew that they didn't plant it. They decided to let it continue growing until they could figure out what it was. Weeks passed and as they made their way back to the mystery plant, it appeared to be a Sunflower. It was spindly looking with a tall skinny stalk and only one head on it. They decided to baby it along and weed around it. As they pulled rocks from the area to get to the weeds, they noticed something unusual. The Sunflower had not started where they saw the stalk b

When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn't know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. "Daughter, what do you see?" "Potatoes, eggs, and coffee," she hastily replied. "Look

Staying Safe in A EarthQuake

Educating us on earthquake safety. Over the years, we have been taught to 'duck and cover' or stand in a doorway during an earthquake. Doug Copp; Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced rescue team, explains his triangle of life strategy wherein he simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them.. This space is what he calls the "triangle of life". The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the "triangles" you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building. LIFE IS A MIRACLE

Is there anything called Miracle on this existence? If there is something called miracle, how exactly it is expressed? If somebody walks in thin air, or walks on the water, it becomes miracle! If somebody predicts the future and if it happens, it also becomes a miracle! But what is the real miracle? What is not a miracle here? Billions of stars… the sun… the sunlight… the moon… the earth… movement of the earth on its own axis… movement of the earth around the sun… Everything happens in the rhythm… Isn't a miracle? Every moment the breath is getting in me from the moment I was born and keeping me alive! Every moment my eyes are recognizing new scenes… Every moment my ears are listening to new sounds… I am able to walk on this planet despite the fact that the earth moves at a speed of 108,000 km/h around the sun… Aren't they miracles? Animals that are much more powerful are not attacking me, they are afraid of me… I carry the fastest form of energy along with me… my own mind… ar
