Finally The Price Of Fuel Cut...But Not Sufficent

The Government have reduced the price of the fuel in india by Rs 5 for petrol and Rs 3 for Diesel .The reduction was not sufficent. The reduction for the price of petrol would have being Rs 10 and the Lpg price must have being reduced by Rs 25 . But that has not happen. It is just a gimmick to get the vote and not more than that.

'Please don't make a film on Mumbai attacks'

Please don't make a film on the Mumbai attacks," filmmaker Sandip Ray appealed to his colleagues in the film industry. "As responsible citizens, we, filmmakers, should stop glorifying such macabre incidents. Let's not depict heroes out of killers. Let conscience, not profit be our motivation. I feel so restless all the time, can't concentrate. It's a strange feeling." The director, who is legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray's only child, expressed solidarity with those, who voiced a protest against the lack of security in this country."My heart reaches out to those families, who lost their member in this heinous act of crime. Earlier, we used to think only big cities are the terrorists' preferred targets. But 2008 saw a series of blasts in so-called smaller cities as well. Where will we go? Where can we get our security?" he asks.Ray is aghast at the total collapse of intelligence in the country. "We are paying our taxes in time and fu

praising the Mumabi cop

We Indian salutes the Mumabi police for the courage the police personnel on duty on the night of terror attack. some of the policemen were running behind a terroist armed with a AK 47 with a simple lathi... it is high time for the govt to provide better facilities for the local police.

Why Oil Price Not Reduced

Why is the Govt of INDIA Not reducing the price of the fuel even as the international price of the oil have fallen down below the $37 per barrel. The Indian oil companies are now reaping huge gaains now. it is time to reduce Rs 10 for Petrol , Rs 5 for Disel and Rs 100 for Lpg cylinder. The political parties excepts some left parties no one is talking of the reducing the price. when a price is rised then the Bjp protest by calling for a strike.. why no strike no for reducing the price.

Remove politicians' security. Now!

I am scared. Scared of venturing out, scared of the unknown terror lurking somewhere -- on the train, in the taxi, in the mall, at the theatre. Of a person brushing against me in a crowded area or lift. Scared whether I will return in one piece -- or return at all -- every time I leave the safety of my home. More than myself, I am scared whenever a loved one steps out. I am tense and pray until they all come back. Then, I heave a huge sigh of relief -- only for the tension to return the next morning, when someone steps out again. I am angry. Angry at myself for being scared. I have travelled every single day to my Times of India office opposite the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus [ Images ] in near empty trains during the infamous Mumbai riots. I walked the length of the roads from CST to KC college trying to get in touch with my son on a day of another terror attack when bodies were being hurried into siren-blazing ambulances, when loudspeakers were blaring appeals for blood donations an

Five lessons from Mumbai

The terrorist assault on Mumbai has only just ended, and India has entered a period of urgent self-examination, bitter soul-searching--and increasingly acrid recrimination. Here are five lessons that present themselves--to the naked eye--in the aftermath. 1. India is an incredibly soft target for terrorists. Mumbai, India's financial hub, lacked its own SWAT teams and commandos. They had to be flown in from the capital, New Delhi [ Images ] (with the interior minister announcing, on TV, that 200 of them were on their way . . . talk about a free gift of information to the terrorists!). One cannot imagine that the small number of terrorists who assaulted Mumbai were the only ones trained at the Pakistani camps whence they came. So: What will happen if terrorists attack, next, the information technology hubs in Bangalore and Hyderabad, the high-tech heart of India's economy? Or the Taj Mahal [ Images ] in Agra [ Images ], arguably the most famous building in the world? Or the How

'Terrorists were barbaric and sadistic'

The terrorists achieved what they wanted to and have managed to send out panic waves across the country though they were defeated at the end. While precise planning was the key to their success another reason why they managed to keep the security forces at bay for such a long time was because they had kept hostages with them. NSG commandos, who took part in the operation, told rediff.com that the terrorists were "sadistic and barbaric". "Although we cannot reveal the exact nature of torture meted out to hostages, we can say that the hostages were not given food or water for the entire three days," he said. The NSG commando says that some of the guards and the guests were tortured and some of them were bled to death. A guard and a guest were found dead in a room. They were stripped, beaten, their legs chained and were bled to death. This only goes on to show how sadistic they were by nature. The NSG is still unable to confirm how many people terrorists had been kept

ATS chief, 2 other top police officers killed

Three top Mumbai police officers, including two from the Anti-Terrorism Squad, were killed in Wednesday night's terror attack .ATS chief Hemant Karkare -- who was investigating the Malegaon blast case, Additional Commissioner Ashok Kamte and noted encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar and were killed in an incident outside Mumbai's Cama hospital, ATS sub-inspector Sudhir Dalvi, who was part of the operation led by the deceased

Condemns the Terrorist Violence in Mumbai

CMKP strongly condemns the barbaric and heinous acts of planned murder anddestruction carried out by terrorists in Mumbai India. We express oursincerest condolence with all the people who fell victim to this savagecrime. We also salute the entire Indian Left that is doing its utmost to reign inreprisals by Hindu fundamentalist forces against the Muslims of India. We strongly feel that the role of the Left in Pakistan is to expose andorganize against right-wing forces, both inside and outside the PakistanMilitary, that harbor an agenda against harmonious relation between Pakistanand India. The Left and the people of both countries should not let Mumbai terroristattacks undermine the Pakistani India peace process. Such a development willprovide the Pakistan Army with an excuse to continue a heavy deployment onthe Pak-India border and play in the hands of religious extremists to carryon with their deadly vendetta against the people of both countries in thename of religion, race and caste.

The heartbeat of a wounded city that will bleed, but will not bend

The road that leads from the Metro Cinema to the Gateway of India is wall to wall people. A group of St Xavier's College students have stationed themselves near the Metro end of the road. Under the light of candles held aloft with no care to dripping hot wax, they set up a chant: India! India! India! It starts small. More join in. Those inching past on the other side of the road pause, look, listen, and finally they join in. 'India! India! India!' Just that, no rhyming slogans, no zindabads, no murdabads -- the name of this country, chanted loud and clear and constant. Pretty soon, everyone on that stretch of road is chanting just that one name -- and the effect in the late night air of that percussive drumbeat of sound is mesmeric. And like jungle drums of old, it seems to send out a message: We will not be cowed. The 'rally' was scheduled to begin at 6 -- but which rally? At 5, some three thousand people had already arrived at the Gateway, and in groups of a dozen

Mumbai Terror Attacks

The Polit Bureau had already adopted a statement on the horrific terrorist attack in Mumbai on November 29. The statement's main conclusion is as follows: "The lessons from this grim incident has to be drawn correctly and promptly. The continuous and widespread terrorist attacks which have occurred in the country have shown up the weakness in our intelligence and security systems. The country expects the Government to immediately take effective steps to revamp and strengthen the intelligence and security set up. A beginning has to be made by identifying and taking steps against the forces with external links who have perpetrated this crime. "This is the time for all sections of the people and political circles to rise above any sectarian interests and ensure that the unity and integrity of the country is safeguarded by curbing all forms of terrorism whatever their source." After investigation, when the evidence of the links in Pakistan of the persons who committed t

Unitedly Face Threat of Terrorism

The country has experienced a sense of relief at the successful conclusion of the security operations against the armed men who had perpetrated the terrorist outrage in Mumbai. The clearing of the Taj Hotel on the 29th morning and the rescue of the people trapped there has ended the three day ordeal which saw the terrible toll of over 200 dead and several hundreds injured in the multiple strikes in the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Trident-Oberoi and Taj Hotels and the Nariman House. The Polit Bureau pays its homage to the officers and men of the security forces, the National Security Guard, Anti Terrorism Squad, the Mumbai Police and other forces who laid down their lives fighting against terrorists. The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt sympathy to all those who have lost their family members in these dastardly attacks. The lessons from this grim incident has to be drawn correctly and promptly. The continuous and widespread terrorist attacks which have occurred in the country hav

War on Mumbai

A barbaric act of terroist again happened in the city of mumabi on 26 nov . It was real time war on indian soil. Most around 200 innocent people both indain and foreign people have lost their life recent days.some of the best policemen of mumbai have lost their life.. We the people of INDIA saluate the Heroes of the Mumbai war. The recent war have shown that the India is Zero in term of security.India's worst primeminister Dr Manmoahan singh is interested only in Nuclear deal with other country and not to the security of the INDIA. There is no investiagation agency like the FBI, no commados like the marine corp of US which can be deployed in one hour of the attack. There is no crisis management facilities, there is no cctv to scan high profile areas, no patrol in coastal areas, no efficent intelligence, no communication with the state police. It is high time to RISE VOICE aganist this . We dont require a political party with politician who have only 10 th standard knowledge. we want

How Lehman bank failed?

LATELY, I have been thinking a lot about the Lehman crisis . Spending money that they didn't have and going beyond their means is one of the main reasons for their situation today. In fact that is the cause for the current economic crisis in the US.When I see all this happening, I can only remember the good old days. Then, karz was bad. People looked down upon those who took loans. Parents would not give their daughter's hand in marriage to a man with loans. But of course, the times have changed now. Everyone I know has a loan. The buzz word is EMI (equated monthly installment). Today, you can buy everything on EMI - a house, a television, an i-Pod. In fact I know of someone who just bought a fancy BMW 3 series on EMI, instead of buying a cheaper car outright with cash. I mostly prefer to take public transport, but then I am an old man with old thoughts! Anyway, coming back to what caused the crisis. Imagine having Rs 2 lakh in your bank account, no regular income, yet buying a

The way stock market works

It was autumn, and the Red Indians on the remote reservation asked their New Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Red Indian chief in a modern society, he couldn't tell what the weather was going to be. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his Tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared. But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked "Is the coming winter going to be cold?" "It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold indeed," the meteorologist at the weather service responded. So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more Wood. A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Is it Going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "It&#

SINGUR: THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The people of the country, of Bengal, and of Singur may legitimately pose the question as to what made the Tata's wind up the small car project at Singur when more than 85% of work has been completed.A run of devastation called an 'agitation,' has had a temporary triumph. It has wounded the both the prospects of industrial investment in the state and the process of industrialisation. Again, we call this a temporary phenomenon. The majority of the people of the state - indeed, an overwhelming majority - had wanted from the core of their heart that the Singur project must become a reality.Following the meeting that Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and I had with Shri Ratan Tata, the expectation of the people has perhaps touched rock-bottom. Only history will tell in the months and years to come what would the losses entail to no less than eight crore of men and women of the state. History was sent on the backfoot on 3 October 2008 when at the end of the meeti

Financial Meltdown

Hi All It is common knowledge that some of the recent developments in some of the financial markets in the world have been unusual and with dramatic impact on the whole world.I would like to share a few thoughts regarding the same and seek inputs from everyone in the community as we have a very knowledged, experienced, diverse group of members in the community and it would be interesting to see some views bounced off. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae - Fed Bail out! Bear & Sterns - Gone! Lehman Brothers - Gone! AIG - Fed bail Out! Goldman Sachs - Not an Investment Bank Anymore! Washington Mutual - Gone! It is unbelievable that these pillars of Investment Banking and finance - The Ivy league of Money markets have gone bust! The US Fed bailed out a couple of institutions to save the market from totally crashing and have decided that they cant do much about the rest! Investment bankers - the rischest and most envied of professionals are becoming unemploed in hordes and many are going on 2

True color of nuclear deal

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill (H. R. 7081) that approves the 123 Agreement, but which is contradictory to the assurance given by the Prime Minister to the nation. An identical version is before the US Senate for voting. Even as late as 26 September 2008, the Prime Minster was seeking an agreement that would 'satisfy India'. This has not come to pass, and it will be interesting to see how the Indian government and the Indian media will 'spin' this into a victory for India. The Indian side is supposed to have been unhappy with the language. The fact is that one is not worried about the language, but the content and compulsions of the Bill. Why is the House bill not satisfactory? Even the title of the Bill, 'United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Nonproliferation Enhancement Act', makes it clear that they seek to press their non-proliferation agenda. The Bill makes a number of things explicitly clear, and reveals the true colours o

If computer languages were car..

* C is a racing car that goes incredibly fast but breaks down every fifty miles. * C++ is a souped-up racing car with dozens of extra features that only breaks down every 250 miles, but when it does, nobody can figure out what went wrong. * Java is a family station wagon. It's easy to drive, it's not too fast, and you can't hurt yourself. * C# is a competing model of family station wagons. Once you use this, you're never allowed to use the competitors' products again. * Lisp looks like a car, but with enough tweaking you can turn it into a pretty effective airplane or submarine. * Perl is supposed to be a pretty cool car, but the driver's manual is incomprehensible. Also, even if you can figure out how to drive a perl car, you won't be able to drive anyone else's. * Python is a great beginner's car; you can drive it without a license. Unless you want to drive really fast or on really treacherous terrain, you may never n

Halt the New Pension Scheme

Halt the New Pension Scheme The Finance Minister's recent statements in the aftermath of the financial crisis in the US, reiterating the Government's commitment to carry forward financial sector reforms show a stubborn refusal to learn proper lessons. His assertion regarding the ability of India's financial regulators "to keep regulations one step ahead of innovation" does not carry any conviction. The UPA Government should abandon forthwith all moves to put the pension funds of Government employees into the stock market. The Government has refused to assure a minimum guaranteed pension for the Government employees under the New Pension Scheme. The pension funds of the employees must not be left to the mercy of the speculative forces, which have played havoc in stock markets across the world. The Government will be held squarely responsible for any erosion of the hard earned savings of the employees owing to a stock market meltdown. The CPI (M) demands that the in

Clandestine Deals with US Nuclear Power Companies exposed

Clandestine Deals with US Nuclear Power Companies Exposed The UPA Government seems to have already decided to place orders with the American nuclear power companies for supplying a large number of nuclear reactors without any debate in the country regarding the cost of such imported reactors, or the safety of their designs. William Burns, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, while testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on September 18, 2008 stated: The Indian government has provided the United States with a strong Letter of Intent, stating its intention to purchase reactors with at least 10,000 Mega Watts (MWe) worth of new power generation capacity from U.S. firms. India has committed to devote at least two sites to U.S. firms. India also has committed to adhere to the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage. Each 1000/1,100 MW reactor from US companies like Westinghouse or GE, by latest estimates, will cost at least $7 billion each. Th

WHY THE AMERICAN $ BUBBLE IS ABOUT TO BURST......??

Very Interesting....must read ................. Currently almost all oil buying and selling is in US-dollars through exchanges in London and New York . It is not accidental they are both US-owned. The Wall Street crash in 1929 sparked off global depression and World War II. During that war the US supplied provisions and munitions to all its allies, refusing currency and demanding gold payments in exchange. By 1945, 80% of the world's gold was sitting in US vaults. The dollar became the one undisputed global reserve currency - - it was treated world-wide as `safer than gold'. The Bretton Woods agreement was established. The US took full advantage over the next decades and printed dollars like there was no tomorrow . The US exported many mountains of dollars, paying for ever-increasing amounts of commodities, tax cuts for the rich, many wars abroad, mercenaries, spies and politicians the world over. You see, this did not affect inflation at home! The US got it all for free! Well
