2014- A Flash back

Yet another year is about to leave. What 2014 have done to us particular to me. I am not going to call it as great year or fabulous year like all do always when we write such a self-introspection at the end of the year. It is not because it is not a good year or fabulous year. 2014 have being successful enough to be remembered & thank god for all that he has given. Travelled thousands of kilometers. Relocated to Dubai. Made new friends. Learned a totally new life style which will be an experience of life. Learned how to be diplomatic & at the same time cunning to survive in this stuff world particularly in UAE. Year started with a set back to my personal goal but later it gave way to a success to a new mode of life. Relocation to Dubai, Three months in Airport site, 18th gulf youth conference, into 30th year since my birth , another small thing in my life for first time which I don’t want to relieve will be remain as the things to be remembered for 2014 in my personal li

"Why is it easier to find an iPhone (than) to find a plane?

You don't have to be an expert to ask yourself the question -- how in the world, with today's technology, can a commercial airplane go missing? It's a question, but also an expression of disbelief. What to know about air turbulence Those who get lost driving can use GPS. If you lose your iPhone, there's an app to track it down. Scientists successfully plotted the course for a spacecraft that landed on a speeding comet. How did weather affect AirAsia flight? But something goes wrong aboard a 123-foot, 67-ton passenger jet and rescuers must resort to scouring the ocean? "Why is it easier to find an iPhone (than) to find a plane?" one Twitter user, Catalina Buitano, asked. There are dozens of similar questions on social media. They hint at the same sentiment: in a world where people's locations are tracked for everything from map apps to what ads appear on a web browser, why does Big Brother's gaze avoid the skies? "Why, in this day and age, do

AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501 to Singapore missing

An AirAsia Indonesia airliner flying from Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board has gone missing. Flight QZ8501 lost contact with air traffic control at 06:24 local time (23:24 GMT Saturday) over the Java Sea. The plane, an Airbus A320-200, disappeared midway into the flight of more than two hours from the city of Surabaya. No distress call was made. Bad weather was reported in the area, and an air search operation has now been suspended for the night. Planes from Indonesia and Singapore had been scouring an area of sea between Kalimantan (Borneo) and Java. Some boats were reported to be continuing to search as night fell. No wreckage has been found, an Indonesian official told the BBC. AirAsia's Chief Executive Tony Fernandes, who has flown to Surabaya, said: "We don't want to speculate but right now of course the plane has been missing for 12 hours and there's a deep sense of depression here. "This is a massive shock to us and we are devas

When a idea to Generate positive PR went Lay wire after IITian accept the 6 crore offer

In a stunning development, India’s IT services giant, Infosys, has surpassed the likes of Facebook by making a mammoth Rs 6 crore annual pay package offer to an IIT-Kharagpur Computer Science student, Rakesh Kapur, during campus recruitment. However, the idea was apparently a marketing gimmick gone wrong – the Infy HR team was confident that all IITians would reject the offer anyway but the news would make headlines on both the mainstream and the social media, thereby generating positive PR for the beleaguered IT services giant. But in a cruel twist, IITian Rakesh Kapur, who was spell-bound by the package, gleefully accepted the offer and even agreed to go through the initial months of prison-styled training thereby dashing the plan hatched by the company’s HR division. Now, the company is in utter shock. For one, it has blown its entire recruitment budget for the year on acquiring just one student. While he is undoubtedly talented and smart, can he do the equivalent of 100 fresher

Tag Heuer plans to launch a smartwatch; to take on Apple Watch

Tag Heuer is pushing ahead with plans for a smartwatch to more directly compete with the likes of the Apple Watch and may make acquisitions to help drive the strategy, its head said on Tuesday. Swiss watch makers like Tag Heuer, the biggest brand in luxury goods group LVMH's watch portfolio, had until recently largely dismissed the threat of "smart" gadgets, but LVMH watch chief Jean-Claude Biver says he had changed his mind on the subject. Biver, who had already outlined plans for a smartwatch, said he had struck several partnerships and was mulling purchases to help come up with an original upmarket offering. Switzerland's watch industry is facing competition from these wearable gadgets that allow users to check email or make phone calls. Swatch Group, the world's biggest watchmaker, said in August it planned a launch next summer. "We started on the project about four months ago. We have done several partnerships and might also do acquisitions," Bi

Vistara ( joint Venture of TATA ) Get Flying License

Paving the way for launch of its flights, Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture airline Vistara was today granted flying permit by aviation regulator DGCA, almost nine months after it applied for the licence. The new full-service carrier would "shortly" announce its flight schedules and open ticket bookings, an airline official said. Vistara currently has two leased Airbus A-320s in its fleet and plans to induct three more by March next year. The new Delhi-based airline plans to connect Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Goa, Chandigarh, Srinagar, Jammu and Patna in the first year of its operations. "I am delighted that we have successfully cleared the final requirement and secured the AOP (Air Operator's Permit). We are thankful to the Ministry of Civil Aviation for their support and guidance during the entire process," Vistara chief executive Phee Teik Yeoh said. Vistara chairman Prasad Menon said in a statement, "Receiving the AOP is a key mileston

What went wrong with SPICE JET Airlines ?

A golden rule of business is to never to let your firm’s troubles reach the customer. But it was one that SpiceJet broke repeatedly, starting from the fag end of October when things began unravelling at the Chennai-based airline. Flights were delayed and rescheduled at short notice, leaving disgruntled flyers. In fact, at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on October 30, passengers trying to board the early-morning Chennai flight found no staff at the SpiceJet counters. They had gone on a flash strike for non-payment of dues. It was only hours later that an airline official came to inform irate passengers that their flight would take off in the afternoon. By December, when the airline announced that it was cancelling over 1,800 domestic flights — on average around 80 a day — during the month, SpiceJet was all but tottering. But why did an airline once considered the best alternative to Delhi-based IndiGo and voted the top low-cost carrier in 2012 by the Travel Ag

GSAT-16 launched successfully

After its launch was deferred twice due to bad weather, India's latest communication satellite GSAT-16 was placed in orbit by Ariane 5 rocket in the early hours on Sunday from the space port of Kourou in French Guiana. The European launcher blasted off at 2:10 AM (IST) and hurled the GSAT-16, designed to augment the national space capacity to boost communication services, into space in a flawless flight. GSAT-16 was launched into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). Indian satellite's co-passenger DIRECTV-14, built by SSL (Space Systems/Loral) for operator DIRECTV to provide direct-to-home television broadcasts across the US, was also launched by Ariane 5 VA221, marking 63rd successful mission in a row for the rocket. "Ariane 5 delivers DIRECTV-14 and GSAT-16 to orbit on Arianespace's latest mission success", Arianespace said on its website. With a lift-off mass of 3,181 kg, GSAT-16 carries a total of 48 communication transponders, the largest by a communi

Google's new Device assist

A new Google app, Device Assist, has been launched to detect problems with smartphones and help people use phone features properly. The app is designed to help first-time users get the best out of their phones and fix issues that it detects, for instance, with the battery, connectivity and GPS. Tips "to explore new features and improve the performance of your device" are also on offer, says the app description on Google Play Store. For users of the Nexus, Google's flagship phone and Google Play edition devices, there is also an option of live Google support. The app is currently available to US-based Nexus, Google Play edition and Android One devices running Android 5.0, Lollipop. "Great for people who aren't quite so tech savvy! I'm suggesting this to all my family who constantly ask me to help them with their devices," a user said. There are explanations of features that first-time Android users might not know about, like "screen brightness s

Roger Federer in India to play in IPTL

Indian tennis fans were eagerly waiting to watch their favourite star play in India from the day Roger Federer announced that he will be coming to the country to participate in the inaugural edition of the International Premier Tennis League. The long wait ended finally on Sunday as the 17-time Grand Slam champion played his first tennis match on the Indian soil on Day 2 of the Indian leg of the IPTL at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here. The fans made a loud cheer of "Roger! Roger!" to welcome the champion as he entered the arena for warmup before the start of the match. And he didn't disappoint them. Federer looked in his vintage form as he won all three sets in the Men's Singles, Men's Doubles and the Mixed Doubles. He made a brilliant start with Sania Mirza as they thrashed the pair of Daniela Hantuchova and Bruno Soares 6-0 in the second set of the first match. Federer showed that playing in this new format is not as playing any exhibition match. He loo

World's fastest camera can capture up to 100 billion frames per second

In a breakthrough, researchers have developed the world's fastest 2D camera that can capture events up to 100 billion frames per second. The camera is faster than any current receive-only ultrafast imaging techniques, which are limited by on-chip storage and electronic readout speed to operations of about 10 million frames per second, researchers said. Researchers at the Washington University used a technique called compressed ultrafast photography (CUP) to make movies of the images they took with single laser shots of four physical phenomena: laser pulse reflection, refraction, faster-than light propagation of what is called non-information, and photon racing in two media. For the first time, humans can see light pulses on the fly," Lihong Wang, Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, said. "Because this technique advances the imaging frame rate by orders of magnitude, we now enter a new regime to open up new visions," said Wang. This camera is a se

Justice VR Krishna Iyer dies at 100

Former Supreme Court judge VR Krishna Iyer passed away on Thursday at the age of 100 in a private hospital in Kochi, Kerala. Apple Patents iPhone Fall Protection System That Rotates It in Mid-Air

A future iteration of the iPhone may might just rotate in mid-air when falling to save itself from damage. Apple has been granted a patent for a futuristic iPhone protection system that recognises when a phone is dropped. The device then calculates the point of impact and shifts the phone's centre of gravity to save sensitive components, Appleinsider reported. Developed by Nicholas V. King and Fletcher Rothkopf, the system will rely on sensors to monitor physical device activity and positioning. The latest iPhone and iPad models already come fitted with accelerometers, gyroscopes and GPS which will also be used to full effect. The date from these sensors will go to a central processing unit while the phone is in free fall. A motor will then apply a force inside the phone and cause it to land on a preferred site, such as its side or back. Other components in the device are miniature gas canisters and sliding weights that move internally to save the phone from damage, the re

Lewis hamilton - F1 2014 Champion

British driver Lewis Hamilton clinched his second Formula One title in style with victory at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday, with title rival Nico Rosberg drifting out of contention after failing to recover from a poor start. Hamilton, the 2008 F1 champion, entered the race with a 17-point lead over his Mercedes rival Rosberg, needing only a top-two finish to guarantee the title. Rosberg started from pole position and, with double points on offer, could have taken his first F1 title with a win providing Hamilton finished third. That dream scenario lasted three seconds - the time it took Hamilton to overtake Rosberg, whose race turned into a nightmare. Brazilian driver Felipe Massa crossed the line in second place ahead of his Williams teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Father Kuriakose Chavara and Sister Euphrasia - were conferred sainthood

In a ceremony which was watched closely by thousands in Kerala, a Catholic priest and a nun from the state - Father Kuriakose Chavara and Sister Euphrasia - were conferred sainthood by Pope Francis at Vatican on Sunday. Prayers and masses were offered at several churches in Kerala since early morning today, and thousands of devotees thronged these churches. The event was streamed live on screens set up in select church centres. The ceremony included a Latin hymn and a recommendation by a representative or a mediator of the Congregation for the Saints, after which Pope Francis pronounced them as saints at a special mass at St Peter's Square at Vatican. With today's canonisation, the centuries-old Syro Malabar Church now has three Saints, the first being Sister Alphonsa, who was declared a saint in 2008.

Airless -Puncture Proof -Radial Tyres from michelin

Looks like Michelin is trying to reinvent the wheel and then mass produce it. Well, the tyre manufacturer's latest production facility will be solely dedicated towards making its new airless radial tyres. Christened the Tweel, this tyre combines the tyre and wheel assembly into one solid unit and takes the all-important air out of the equation. The components of the Tweel that remain common with the conventional tyre are the rigid hub at the centre and the shear beam - but the difference lies in the method in which these two components are connected. Where regular wheels use metal or alloy spokes, the airless radial tyre employs polyurethane as material, which is "flexible and deformable." The highlight of the non-pneumatic technology is, of course, the fact that the Tweel can never go flat. As Ralph Dimenna, head of Michelin Tweel Technologies puts it, "The Tweel airless radial tyre enables Michelin to enter new markets and expand its reach in existing business s

Huge Growth potential for E -Commerce Firms in INDIA

The head of Future Group, one of India's largest and most established retailers, admits he can't keep up with web sites like Snapdeal and Flipkart when it comes to spending money to entice shoppers to buy online. Private investors have poured $2.3 billion into India's e-commerce companies so far this year, according to consulting firm Technopak, giving them financial firepower to overwhelm shoppers with bargains and deals that brick-and-mortar retailers like Future Group, which runs a host of chains including Future Retail and Future Lifestyle Fashions, cannot match. "It's all about money. The e-commerce guys have money to experiment - I don't have this kind of money to blow," Kishore Biyani, who pioneered modern retail in India and is chief executive of the Future Group, told Reuters in an interview. In an attempt to match up, traditional retailers are forging partnerships with well-funded websites such as Flipkart.com, Amazon.com Inc and Snapdeal to

Cheap Domestic Airlines Tickets are to Stay

Budget carrier SpiceJet started the trend of announcing hefty discounts on air fares in India. Despite being neck-deep in losses, India's third largest carrier by market share cut air fares on some tickets by 50 per cent in January 2014 and followed up with a series of even steeper discounts. (Read) By the end of the year, the price of a promotional SpiceJet ticket came down to triple digits. Other airlines followed suit raising fears of a price war in India's troubled aviation sector, where only a couple of carriers are making profits. There was apprehension that SpiceJet was resorting to "mindless discounting", but second quarter results show that "there is a method to the madness", SpiceJet's COO Sanjiv Kapoor told NDTV on Monday. SpiceJet lost Rs 310 crore in the three months to September 30, which is 45 per cent less than the Rs 560 crore it lost last year. 'Statue of Unity' -Contract Awarded to L&T

The work order for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project 'Statue of Unity' - the world's tallest statue of India's first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was issued by the Gujarat government on Monday, to leading engineering company Larsen and Toubro (L&T). Work on the 182-metre tall statue of Sardar Patel is to be completed at a cost of Rs 2,979 crore, said Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel who presided over the function of handing over the work order. "This huge construction work will be completed in four years at a cost of Rs 2,979 crore. Cyclone Nilofar

Cyclone Nilofar is expected to hit the Gujarat coast on Friday. The Met department has said that there will be heavy rainfall in coastal Saurashtra and Kutch on October 30 and 31. The Met department has said that the very severe cyclonic storm, 'Nilofar' over westcentral Arabian Sea has moved north-northwestwards and lay centred at 0230 hours IST of 28th October, 2014 near latitude 15.60 N and longitude 61.80 E, about 1120 km southwest of Naliya (Gujarat), 1170 km south-southwest of Karachi (Pakistan) and 840 km east-southeast of Salalah (Oman). However, it is expected that as the system would come closer to Gujarat coast, it would weaken and cross the coast as a severe cyclonic storm. Under the influence of the system, rainfall has been predicted at most places. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely to commence along coastal districts of Saurashtra and Kutch from October 30 morning. The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. What Assembly election Result Means ?

The BJP's victories in Haryana and Maharashtra mark the dramatic advent of a new political reality in these two states, but their consequences are likely to be felt across India in the months and years ahead. True, the BJP may not have managed a majority of its own in Maharashtra but the shift it has effected there, and in Haryana, is nothing less than tectonic. In both states, the party took a bold gamble in deciding to fight alone. The break with the Haryana Janhit Congress - which made impossible demands -- came soon after the BJP's poor performance in the Bihar by-elections and seemed counter-intuitive at the time. The end of the alliance with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra also had its immediate origins in the Sena's unrealistic assessment of its own strength. In both cases, however, the BJP decided to gamble on the Modi wave and a strong anti-incumbency trend coming together to put the party in a commanding position. There was both a tactical and a strategic elemen

Indian Army reply Shocked pakistan

Islamabad may not be awed but it certainly is shocked by the ferocity and volume of the Indian response to ceasefire violations along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. Given complete freedom to act by the government, the Indian Army and Border Security Force are firing back at will from every spot the Pakistanis have targeted. The volume and intensity of India's return fire is much higher than the usual calibrated response the Pakistanis have come to expect. Top government sources told Mail Today that Indian forces are systematically targeting infrastructure and force deployment nodes on the other side. The damage on the other side is so high that Pakistan is, according to an internal report sent to South Block by the Indian mission in Islamabad, "ducking for cover" (see accompanying report). A media blackout of sorts is in place in Pakistan's affected areas so as to keep a lid on the extent of damage suffered; Pakistan's military establishment is

Cyclone HUDHUD

The cyclone is expected to make landfall around Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday before noon, according to the Meteorological department. Evacuations have not started yet in Odisha, where 16 teams of the National Disaster Relief Force have been deployed. 300 temporary centres have also been set up while all local schools have been shut. In Andhra Pradesh, the three northern coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam are expected to be the worst hit. But authorities in East and West Godavari districts - apprehensive that the cyclone could result in flooding - are drawing up a plan to tackle such an eventuality. Nearly four and a half lakh people from 500 villages in the five coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh will be evacuated and moved to local relief camps. Fishermen have already been told to suspend fishing operations from Saturday morning. 30 teams of the Indian Navy, along with teams of the NDRF and two columns of the Army have been kept on stand

Kailash Satyarthi & Malala , 60, won the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014

He belongs to Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh. Trained as an electrical engineer, he turned into an activist for children's rights at the age of 26. As a boy, he was moved by other children who had to work, and whose parents were too poor to send them to school. He started a football club with membership fees paying the school fees of needy children. He and a friend collected donations of 2,000 schoolbooks in a single day, a project that eventually became a book bank in his home town. "If not now, then when? If not you, then who? If we are able to answer these fundamental questions, then perhaps we can wipe away the blot of human slavery," Mr Satyarthi has said, summing up his philosophy. In 1983, he founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement) to fight child labour. His efforts have helped rescue thousands of children from bondage, trafficking and exploitative labour. With the help of NGOs and activists, he has organized hundreds of raids on factories

DHONI INVESTING IN CHENNAI FOOTBALL CLUB

After the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has become the latest cricketer to own a football team in the high-profile Indian Super League, investing in the Chennaiyin FC ahead of the event starting October 12. Dhoni, the current Indian cricket captain, has pencilled a deal to be a co-owner of Chennaiyin FC along with Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan. "Dhoni has signed a deal to become a co-owner of Chennaiyin FC," a source from IMG-Reliance, the organisers of the much-anticipated league told PTI. Last month, Dhoni's deputy in the Indian cricket team was announced as co-owner of ISL team FC Goa. Tendulkar is a co-owner of Kerala Blasters while ex-cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is a co-owner of Atletico de Kolkata. The ISL kicks off on October 12 in Kolkata while the final will be held on December 20.

CSK wins the Champion League 2014

Suresh Raina on Saturday hit a blistering century pulverising Kolkata Knight Riders into submission as Chennai Super Kings exacted a sweet revenge clinching the Champions League T20 in style with a eight-wicket victory in a thoroughly one-sided final. (Highlights | Scorecard | Pics) Chasing a competitive total of 181, Raina smashed the daylights out of a depleted KKR attack without Sunil Narine, scoring a breathtaking 109 off 62 balls with the help of six fours and eight sixes. His century came off only 59 balls. Fitting enough, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni finished the match with a flourish as he hit successive sixes off Yusuf Pathan as CSK won with nine balls to spare. (Gambhir Proud of Record-Breaking KKR) This was CSK's first trophy in three years having last won the IPL and CLT20 in South Africa, back in 2011. Modi's Visit to US . But no Outcome ..

In a get-to-know-you visit fraught with awkward undertones, President Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India sought to repair a strained relationship between their nations on Tuesday, emerging with expressions of good will but little in the way of concrete deals. At an Oval Office meeting and during a stroll around the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Mr. Obama and Mr. Modi emphasized what they had in common as democratic leaders who overcame personal obstacles, campaigned as outsiders and embraced technology as a vital tool in politics and governing. But their talks yielded no resolutions to thorny disputes over taxes, trade and civilian nuclear energy cooperation that have divided the United States and India in recent years. And there was little sign that human rights — a particularly sensitive topic for Mr. Modi, who has been accused of being complicit in deadly anti-Muslim riots — was a major item on the agenda. Over 19,000 people at Madison Square Garden in New

CM Jayalalitha Convicted in 18yrs old Case

All accusations and charges levelled against Jayalalitha that ultimately led to her conviction have now been proved false. The judges who re-examined the case, heard her argument and examined evidences concluded that charges were baseless and freed her with immediate effect. Following are the details of the development. jaya There is not a single proper pair of footwear. Having been upset with her advocates for not representing her case correctly, Jayalalitha fired them. She decided to go it alone and appealed to the court to retry the case. Each of the charges against her was deftly countered by her to the satisfaction of the judge. 10500 witnesses lined up at a witness camp organized near the court and each one signed an affidavit that he or she presented Amma a saree on her birthday, which resulted in her having that many sarees. Amma then informed the court that each of the footwear found in her house was either of the left foot or the right foot and there was not even a single p

Windows 10

Microsoft is trying to soften an unpopular redesign of Windows by reviving features from older versions while still attempting to nudge desktop users into a world of touch screens and mobile devices. The company on Tuesday gave an early preview of the new Windows 10 software, which it aims to begin selling by the middle of next year. Although the current version is called Windows 8, Microsoft says it's skipping ahead to Windows 10 to emphasise its effort to move forward. "Windows 10 represents the first step in a whole new generation of Windows," said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft's operating systems group. Windows 8 was introduced two years ago as an answer to the growing demand for mobile devices. But many users hated it because its tablet-like design and controls weren't a good fit for many devices using keyboards and mice. Sales of personal computers continued to fall. With Windows 10, Microsoft is trying to regain the loyalty of lo

India creates history as ISRO's first Mars orbiter Mangalyaan successfully enters red planet's orbit

It was a truly historic moment for India as the country's first Mars Orbiter Mission, popularly known as Mangalyaan was successfully placed in the red planet's orbit on Wednesday morning. September 24, 2014 will go down as a red-letter day in the annals of space exploration as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved which no space agency in world including the USA's National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) managed to do in their first attempt. Even as crores of Indians were just waking up, hundreds of ISRO scientists were busy manoeuvering the Mangalyaan towards the Martian orbit. With this stupendous achievement, ISRO has become only the fourth space agency which has successfully launched a Mars mission. After carrying out the procedure, ISRO said, "All engines are going strong. Burning of fuel happening." Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah were at ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRA

Solar Power to Run Cold Storage

Young IIT engineers have come up with an affordable solution to the wastage of agricultural produce by developing a unique solar-powered cold storage system which works at almost zero running cost. Developed at the Science and Technology entrepreneurship Park (STEP) of IIT-Kharagpur by mechanical engineering student Vivek Pandey and his team, the micro cold storage system has been successfully tested in a Karnataka farmland. "It is a first of its kind product developed anywhere in the world as there are no running costs for the farmer and works on clean and sustainable technology for all 12 months. We have even applied for four patents for technologies used in the product," Pandey said.
