REALS ACTS OF COMPASSION

The greatest drawbacks in the nature of human beings is delivering precepts without practice.Everyone is a preacher but very few are followers. The ideal man is one who follows what he preaches.Judged by this standard, ideal men are those like Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohammed, Gautama Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi and few others. Can we ever think of becoming a Mahatma?Did Gandhi know as a child that he would become a Mahatma?Certainly, not, whether you become a Mahatma or not, it is your duty and right to set a goal. With out destination to reach, where is the need for you to walk?Weak are those who talk through their life and noble are those who walk through their life. You must always have an ideal person in your mind and make the greatest possible effort to equal or be better than his compassion and universal love in every sphere of human activity.

Compassion has its roots in every noble heart. The basis of real acts of compassion is nobility and humility.Acts done in the false appearence of compassion and charity done with hidden wrong motives will only lead to self-deceit. There are many anecdotes which justify this statement.

There is a story of an honest devotee. At a time when hundreds of pilgrims are rushing through to reach the temple to have the darshan of the lord early, one sincere and honest devotee was walking slowly and steadily. He was looking on his way what little service he can do to the co-pilgrims in their suffering.

To his surprise he found a lame pilgrim without legs in tears, helping himself with his hands to move forward. This pilgrim saw him, came forward out of compassion to take him on his shoulders to be taken to the temple. Many pilgrims who arrived earlier found to their surprise that the deity of the temple was missing from the holy shrine. It was a great surprise to everyone concerned.

They were wondering whether some serious sin had been committed which made the god disappear from the shrine.

The sincere devotee with the lame pilgrim on his shouldersquietly and slowly reached the temple to hear this surprising story. The lame pilgrim suggested to the devotee to move further and reach the holy shrine to the surprise of everyone standing around. As the devotee reached the holy shrine the lame pilgrim disappeared from the shoulders of the devotee like a lightning and appeared as the lord of the temple in the rightful place. This happened like a miracle in a moment.Everyone was amazed.

The whole gathering learnt a great and truthful lesson that real devotion did not lie in selfish acts but in honest thinking and living and helping others in need or distress. It was a lesson that God realisation is not possible through great and costly charities done without a heart but only possible through sincere and simple acts of compassion performed with a true sense of devotion.

Our younger generation should learn a lesson that what is needed for the real evolution of man and also to realise the presence of God everywhere is to lead a life of right thinking and right living.A very big temple constructed or a tank dug or a school run just for the sake of name, fame or publicity are worthless in the eyes of god when compared to the smallest and simplest acts of charity done witha sincere and pure heart.Today's children can not only learn but practise charity and acts of compassion by means of simple acts of helping others.

A small charity of giving few rupees to a blind man in distress or giving a little food to a man in hunger or helping a bling man to cross the road, giving advice to a man in confusion or in distress or in suffering or in disease, bringing forth his self confidence, inculcating a sense of moral strength and devotion to god are really worth and noble acts deserving the lavish love of God.

Analyse, realise and spiritualise your life not only to enjoy the real joy and peace in life but at the same time making everyone around you happy and peaceful.
