Digital locker Facility


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1 will launch the digital locker facility that will help citizens to digitally store their important documents such as PAN card, passport, marksheets and degree certificates. Here are some key features of the facility.

DigiLocker is a dedicated personal storage space in the cloud to citizens, linked to each resident's Aadhaar number. It can be used to safely store e-documents as well as store Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) link of e-documents issued by various issuer departments. e-Sign facility is provided as part of DigiLocker system which can be used to digitally sign e-documents.

It will minimize the use of physical documents and will provide authenticity of the e-documents. It will provide secure access to govt-issued documents. It will also reduce administrative overhead of Govt departments and agencies and make it easy for the residents to receive services Digital Locker will reduce the administrative overhead of government departments and agencies created due to paper work. It will also make it easy for the residents to receive services by saving time and effort as their documents will now be available anytime, anywhere and can be shared electronically. It is an initiative under Digital India programme.

To sign-up for your Digital Locker, one needs a valid Aadhaar number and a Mobile number that is linked to that Aadhaar Number.
